How much does carpet fitting cost?

My carpet fitting prices are simple and transparent. See the breakdown below for typical labour costs by room and stairs.

The total you pay depends on the size of the rooms, the type of carpet, whether old flooring needs lifting, and if you want extras like new underlay or door bars fitted.

Carpet fitting prices by room

These are labour-only estimates based on my typical rates. Carpet and materials are separate.

Room / JobTypical labour cost
Carpet fitting£4 per m² (minimum charge £60 for rooms up to 15 m²)
Hall, stairs & landingFrom £80
Stair runnerFrom £100
Stair rod installation (per rod)£5
Carpet uplift (per room)£20

Prices assume standard access and preparation. Extra charges apply for stairs with twists, kites and bullnoses. I uplift old carpet but do not remove or dispose of it.

Vinyl fitting prices by room

Labour-only estimates for cushioned vinyl and LVT. Vinyl and materials are separate.

Room / JobTypical labour cost
Vinyl fitting£4.50 per m² (minimum charge £70 for rooms up to 15 m²)
Vinyl uplift (per room)£20

I do not ply sub-floors. If the sub-floor needs work I'll flag it at the free measure so you can arrange a joiner. I uplift old flooring but do not remove or dispose of it.

Accessory price list

Honest, fixed prices on the extras most jobs need. Supply only or supplied and fitted as part of your job.

What affects the cost?

Room size & shape

Larger rooms cost more overall, but the price per m² drops. Awkward shapes and lots of doorways take longer.

Stairs & landings

Stairs are labour-intensive. Winders, bullnoses and multiple landings add time and skill.

Underlay & extras

New underlay, gripper rods and door bars improve finish and longevity. I can supply these or fit your own.

Furniture & access

If rooms are fully furnished, clearing and moving items adds time. Good access and empty rooms keep costs down.

Is it cheaper to supply your own carpet?

Yes — many customers buy carpet from a local retailer or showroom and then hire me to fit it. I fit only, so you only pay for my labour, underlay and any extras you need.

I can always measure up first for you if needed.

Do you uplift and dispose of old carpet?

I uplift old carpet at £20 per room but don't dispose of it — customers arrange skip or tip run. I don't ply-board sub-floors.

Do you offer free measures and quotes?

Yes — free home measures and written quotes across Darlington, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Durham, Hartlepool and surrounding areas.
